I saw my old friend Rupert's face looking at us from a poster mounted under the lighted
"Appearing Tonight" sign. The heavy wooden door opened and we were
greeted by a dual blast of warm air and loud rock music. Frank turned to me with a grin and handed me
two foam rubber earplugs. Our names were
supposed to be on the guest list and somehow, despite the noise, Frank
communicated that fact to the doorman. He checked his list, examined our identification
and motioned us inside. This pieceis
a chapter in the new book The Toughest Hundred Dollars & Other
Rock & Roll Storiesby Larry Manch. The book is
available for purchase in e-book form at the Kindle Store on Amazon.com.
